This workshop takes place from Monday to Thursday, so just click on the first date and it will automatically register you for the 4 days! During the 4-day workshop (Monday to Thursday, 10:00-16:00), participants learn to make moulds using different materials that we will take to the hot-shop and blow glass into. This special method of working with glass has a 2000-year-old history that is very much in popular use today! Simply send an email to reservations@michelbergerhotel.com and let them know you are taking the class! What does it mean to blow into a mould? This means shaping the glass by using moulds of different materials in a way that is not necessarily possible to make with glass blowing. During the day we spend in the Berlin Glas hot-shop, the gaffer will prepare the molten glass and blow it into the different moulds. Participants will learn to assist the gaffer and have an interactive experience of the process. It is possible to make a negative cast of an object and to blow glass into it. We will use plaster mainly but we will also introduce participants to use other materials, such as metal, found objects or forms made out of mesh wire. The metal integrates with the glass and interesting effects can be achieved. Experimentation is the key! This workshop is geared for an experience of learning a new and exciting technique; so do not be discouraged if your piece is not successful. Come to the workshop with lots of ideas and don’t be afraid to try!
