17-21 November 2025

446,25 Euro
BG Studio

Service Description

The focus of this five day workshop is to learn and practice how to add detailed images to your stained glass works. In class you will next learn processes including airbrushing glass (using an atomizer and airbrush), pen-and-ink drawing, silk-screen printing using existing screens the instructor will bring, and painting glass. No need to be an expert painter, we will be tracing images in class. Enamels are painted on the glass surface then kiln fired onto the glass. Students will copper foil and solder the panel together to make a finished stained glass panel up to 30cm x 30cm. This class is great for beginners and those with experience working with stained glass who want to bring it to the next level. Marketing for artists and art residency advice lectures, as well as demonstrations on how to frame and light your work are included in the workshop. The workshop will run from Monday the 17th until Friday the 21st of November. Class is from 10:00-16:00. Painted stained glass has a powerful tradition that dates back to Medieval windows in cathedrals throughout Europe. Joseph Cavalieri’s techniques use a similar process of painting and firing enamels on glass in a kiln, but he combines more modern processes with hand painting on glass including airbrushing, silk-screening, and penning to produce commissions and public art projects. Joseph’s work can be seen in the permanent collection of the Museum of Arts and Design, the Italian American Museum, the Leslie-Lohman Museum, the Stax Museum, and in the collections of two Simpson’s writers in Los Angeles. Private and public art commissions include a MTA Arts for Transit public art installation at the Philipse Manor Train Station in New York, and Our Lady of Sorrow Church on the island of Itaparica, in Brazil. Cavalieri’s teaching credentials include over 100 workshops in the USA, South America and Europe, including Corning Museum of Glass, Berlin Glas, Plichuck, and Penland School of Craft.
